“Cast Lace” is a Queen Ann’s lace flower made from steel and cast iron. The beautiful line quality makes such heavy and industrial materials look delicate and elegant. The piece was inspired by Julie’s grandmother, beautiful and strong, unyielding characters with nurturing souls.
“Cast Lace” is a hand made, one of a kind sculpture made by Julie Chabrian in 2018. She hand carved the flowers, took molds of them and pour molted iron into the molds using the cupolette furnace “Sputnik” located at the University of North Florida, in Jacksonville FL. Each flower is grinded by hand, and threaded so that they securely thread onto the steel stem. There is some light green and almond coloring with most of raw gritty materials exposed and is sealed to prevent rusting.
